The therapy is provided by registered counselling professional that can be covered by most of Extended Health Benefit Plans up to 90-100%.
Tips to find if you are covered for counseling therapy under your plan:
1) Consult with the HR department of your workplace or contact the manager of your self-financed health plan to find out the specifics of the extended health plan (often provided in a booklet, on a website or via telephone);
2) Packages usually outline which therapist/counsellor credentials are covered by the insurance plan; specifically, you might ask to ensure your insurance plan covers counselling fee from a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). My CCC registration number is #11246250. To vertify my registration, please find my name, Kwun Fai Lai, through clicking the tab <FIND A CCC / CCS> in the webpage of Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
3) Request information on the yearly maximum for counselling expense reimbursement; the deductible or the per cent of coverage for each visit.
